Giants DE Osi Umenyiora On Pace To Destroy Record For Most Forced Fumbles In a Season

After only six weeks, New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora leads the league with seven forced fumbles - only two forced fumbles less than the all-time record of nine in a single season.

According to Playerfilter, three players hold the record of nine forced fumbles in a single season - Dwight Freeney in 2002, Leonard Little in 2002, and Jason Taylor in 2006 - while only 19 players have recorded seven in a single season:

Averaging 1.2 forced fumbles per week in 2010, Umenyiora is on pace for a ridiculous 19 on the season. Although he's unlikely to compile 19 and has enjoyed opponents such as Carolina, Chicago and Detroit thus far, he is almost certain to break the record, barring injury.

The stats above are based on data beginning in the 80s, as this statistic has only recently started being recorded.
